Louisa Ann Meredith (1812-1895) was a writer and artist remembered for her keen observations of colonial life and her studies of Australian native flora and fauna.
Her books include Notes and Sketches of New South Wales (1844) and My Home in Tasmania, during a residence of nine years (1850) (both written in diary form). Over the Straits: A Visit to Victoria was published in 1861. Tasmanian Friends and Foes, Feathered, Furred and Finned: A Family Chronicle of Country Life appeared in 1880 and was illustrated with coloured plates of her own drawings. She also wrote fiction in the form of novels and poetry.
